The Sharp End

About the course: The safe removal of drug litter including needles, syringes, and discarded drugs causes a high level or concern and confusion. This no-nonsense course cuts through the myths and confusion and looks at how to deal with various levels of drug litter in a safe and proportionate manner.

Appropriate for: Caretakers, estate managers, trades, domestic staff, cleaners

Duration: half day course

Course includes:

  • types of drug litter
  • assessing scale of job
  • tools for the job
  • dealing with single needles
  • dealing with multiple needles
  • dealing with concealed hazards
  • discarded drugs
  • needlestick and BBV exposure

Format: Taught sections, whole group discussion, hand on practicals

Handouts: Copies of OHPs and legislation briefing provided to all participants; additional informattion such as drugs awareness literature can be included by request.

DANOS Modules: not really a DANOS-mapped course;

Notes: Can be run as two-half day courses in a single day providing a highly economic way of training large staff numbers.
