Drugs and the Hotel Industry

Duration: one day

Who the course is for: Managers, team leaders and staff in hotels.

About the course: Drug use takes place in many hotels; they provide an anonymous venue for consumption and supply. But many hotels may be breaking the law when they fail to respond promptly and effectively to drug-related incidents. This training day allows staff within hotels to become more familiar with key drugs, how to respond to them, and how to avoid costly and damaging legal problems.

Objectives:

  • to increase awarenes of commonly used controlled drugs
  • to identify key signs of drug use within hotel settings
  • to increase awareness of the legal ramifications of drug use and supply in hotel settings
  • to identify key aspects of drug policy

The course includes:

  • drugs, their appearance, effects, legal status and signs of use
  • The Misuse of Drugs Act and obligations for the managers of premises
  • responding to drug incidents with staff and customers
  • the handling and storage of drugs and paraphernalia
  • the elements of a drug policy

Format: taught sections, hands-on activity, group discussion
