Training the Trainer

About this course: This course is not only for people who are interested in training, but for all workers keen to improve their presentation skills. This can be useful in drugs education settings, group work settings, aswell as conference and training settings.

Duration: Two/Three day course

Appropriate for: Workers who have undertaken previous drugs training and wish to develop their training and presentation skills.

Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will;

  • have become more confident in presenting and delivering information
  • aware of different learning styles
  • able to plan and deliver a training course
  • understand the approriate use of presentation resources
  • Carry out a basic training needs analysis for a specific event;
  • Detail the administrative components of course design and delivery;
  • Write training aims and objectives in line with good practice
  • Apply theories of group dynamics to training design and delivery;
  • Design innovative training materials;
  • Recognise and use a variety of presentation styles and methods;
  • Identify issues to be resolved in delivering a training event;
  • Use a range of evaluation techniques;
  • Identify methods of self-support to use whilst training.

Course includes:

  • assessing learning needs
  • models of adult learning
  • group dynamics
  • preparation of courses and course materials
  • timings
  • use of warm-ups
  • managing group dynamics
  • evaluating sessions
  • delivering to groups
  • use of IT
  • problem groups

Format: Taught section, work in pairs and groups, whole group discussion. Participants will be expected to plan, develop and deliver parts of a training course; this will be reviewed by the group.

Notes: This course can be adapted to specific drugs - so for example by combining this with a cannabis course you can run a TTT - cannabis course.
