Cocaine and Crack and other Stimulants

Duration: 1 day or 2 day course

Who is the course for: Workers with previous drugs training or experience, who need to develop more detailed awareness of cocaine and crack use. The one day course offers an overview with less chance to explore development issues. The two day course is more detailed and allows for greater consideration of how to take forward issues explored locally

About the Course: A real treat for workers who encounter cocaine and crack, this course looks in detail at the drug and provides a rare opportunity to look at it in depth.

Objectives:

  • To increase awareness of how and why people use cocaine and crack
  • To improve skills in reducing risk
  • To increase awareness of the range of treatment options available
  • To increase confidence in assessing and responding to the needs of crack users

  • Cocaine and neurotransmitters
  • How they are used and reducing risks
  • Dependency and compulsion (explored in detail on the two day course)

  • Lifestyle issues (covered in detail on the two day course)
  • Treatment modalities (covered in detail on the two day course)
  • Supporting change (two day course)

Format: Taught sections, small group work, work in pairs, whole group discussion.
