Innovate |
|
The Innovations section is an opportunity for local organisations to disseminate their work to a wider audience. There's a colossal amount of good work out there, taking place in isolation. The Innovate section is an opportunity to share this work. It is also a place to publish 'grey literature' that deserves a wider audience, including academic papers, theses or even your school project. If you have a resource that you want to share, a model of work that has been a success, or anything else that you think that colleagues could learn and benefit from then this is the place for it. Inclusion in this section does not indicate an endorsement of the subject or the content, and is simply to facillitate the distribution of information to wider audiences. Copryright of all materials rests with the author and all enquiries should be directed to them. |

Curious Connections: Warfare and drug use (submitted 02.03) Key Words: Drug use, warfare, connections, patterns Abstract Modern warfare appears to have
a ?class action? effect on populations, resulting in large groups of alienated,
often deeply scarred, people who turn to drugs for self-medication or,
more rarely, recovery. At the same time, use of chemical and botanical
products results in large numbers of people who may feel more ready to
go to war, or at the least, to assign others to go to war. After all,
life becomes cheaper. The Vietnam era was connected to the drug scene
in many ways, some of which are becoming apparent only now, many years
later. Author information Robert J. Gregory worked as a researcher in a community based mental health centre, adjacent to a large military post from 1967 through 1969, later becoming director of a substance abuse program in a state capitol city, all in the Southeast United States. He has served as a researcher for NIDA, and has worked as an anthropologist, psychologist, and university lecturer, most recently in New Zealand. Robert J.
